Nintendo has figured out that a sure path to success for sales is to release a limited edition Zelda variant of their products. The 3DS XL is up next this holiday season with a whole new triforce design.
Immediately following the release of the limited edition Wii U along with the launch of the Wind Waker HD, Nintendo saw a huge bump in console sales from users who were waiting for the special version. This was the second time in recent memory Archeage Gold that Nintendo had released a special Zelda version of their consoles, the first time being the piano black and gold 3DS just in time for the holiday season in 2011. Now, Nintendo has decided to launch a special edition of the 3DS XL with an all new design set to have people drooling in a few weeks.
A leaked copy of what looks to be the Black Friday ad for Gamestop this holiday season features the same two limited edition 3DS handhelds that have already been slated for a UK launch. The first, a blue custom 3DS for Luigi’s Mansion, is coupled in the ad with the black and gold 3DS XL with a dark and light triforce on the top and bottom of the console. In the uk, the console is expected to come with a download for a Link Between Worlds. We expect the same to hold true in the us as well.
The new triforce 3DS XL looks like it will be a very attractive piece of kit, and a worthwhile upgrade from the rather dull Zelda edition 3DS. The 25th anniversary Zelda 3DS bundle did come with Ocarina of time but it’s not nearly as attractive as the new XL model and it looked very much like the standard black 3DS, where no one could confuse the Zelda XL with a normal unit.
