Every week EverQuest Next Devs post poll questions and respond to the questions and comments they receive. The most recent video was on the complexity of the tools players will have at their disposal in Landmark. The obvious potential problem is if they have too many tools available right away it might be overwhelming and confusing for players, on the other side if the tools are too basic and lack the ability to really change things players will be bored.

The solution, according to Jake Sones Lead Building and buy AION Gold UI Designer, is to do a combination of both methods. When players first start with Landmark they will have a basic tool set to use which will be able to do fairly straightforward things. As players progress by reaching certain milestones and achievements new tools will be unlocked. As players gain more options they also will be able to do more complex things.

The downside to this is for players who have a lot of experience with these sorts of games might find the beginning of Landmark to be a bit boring and frustrating due to not being able to do everything they want to do right away. Hopefully people who fall in that category will be able to move through the early stages quickly so they can get to the interesting things they want. This system is great for people who have no real experience with this sort of game as they won’t be completely overwhelmed right away.

Watch the video and then let me know what you think about it. Do you think this compromise will be a good one? Do you think you will get bored before you can even get to the more powerful tools?
